Tax Break for Trial Lawyers Blocked for Now

By a vote of 50-44, the Senate today failed to invoke cloture on H.R. 6049, the tax extenders bill, that included in the $1.6 billion tax break for trial lawyers. (Earlier posts here and here.)

In urging a no vote on cloture, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) specifically mentioned the trial lawyer provision as something that did not belong in the legislation. Perhaps now the Senate can hold a committee hearing on the bill.
